“BRINGING THE RAIN TO KAPITI PLAIN”
by Verna Aardema
Illustrated by Beatriz Vidal Publisher: Puffin Books
This rhythmically rhyming story describes the Kapiti Plain, a place so green it is like “a sea of grass” that is full of wildlife. But when a drought sends many of the larger animals migrating out of the area, it looks like the once picturesque plain is going to shrivel up. However, all is not lost when a large rain cloud appears overhead, but this cloud needs a little help to get a rainstorm started. And so it is up to Kipat, a young boy who takes care of a herd of cows, to figure out how to make the cloud rain, so the grass will be green and lush again, so his cows will not starve and so the Kapiti Plain will return to its former beauty.
