BC-IL--East Aurora-Grading Errors/153
Hundreds of grading errors found at East Aurora school
EAST AURORA, Ill. (AP) — Officials say an error with an online grade book affected the grades of hundreds of students at a suburban Chicago high school.
The (Aurora) Beacon-News reports (http://trib.in/2b8PFOh ) a math teacher at East Aurora High School discovered in mid-April that her grades weren't being calculated correctly.
Administrators eventually changed at least 490 semester grades for high school students, going back more than two years.
The error occurred when teachers missed a step in setting up their online grade books.
The newspaper obtained emails exchanged among teachers, administrators and others. In them, a local education official and a representative of the company that provides the online grading systems said they hadn't heard of such large-scale problems.
Interim Superintendent Mark McDonald says he's confident it won't be an issue in the future.
