Greening of Detroit hires high school students for summer
DETROIT (AP) — A group dedicated to supporting urban reforestation has hired more than 180 Detroit high school students for its summertime youth employment program.
The Greening of Detroit says participants in its Green Corps program will care for trees, farm gardens and green spaces throughout city. The nonprofit's employment program got its start in 1998 and has employed more than 1,800 Detroit youth since then.
This year, some returning Green Corps members can earn a farm stand certification. They'll be trained by The Greening of Detroit's urban agriculture staff using a curriculum created by Michigan State University and help run Palmer Park Preparatory Academy's farm stand.
