New Jersey school to be renamed after astronaut alums
WEST ORANGE, N.J. (AP) — Officials have decided to rename a New Jersey elementary school after twin astronauts who are alumni.
Pleasantdale Elementary School teachers and students over the next few weeks will create a new name to honor Mark and Scott Kelly. The brothers grew up in West Orange and went through the public school system before becoming Navy pilots and NASA astronauts. They've stayed in touch with the school.
A ceremony will be held on May 19 to celebrate the renaming.
Scott Kelly announced he'll retire next month after recently returning from a record stay aboard the International Space Station. Mark Kelly retired in 2011.
