Amnesty for Overdue Books in Lawrence County

by Meredith Cooper

MOULTON, Ala. (AP) — If you have an overdue book from the Lawrence County Public Library, there's no need to worry about late fees.

The library is giving borrowers a chance to turn in the book or other library material — in good condition — with no fees from Dec. 12 through Dec. 16.

Library Director Rex Bain tells The Decatur Daily (http://bit.ly/2fOdu0O ) that the amnesty period won't cover overdue fines on record from previously returned material.

Bain says the library is sponsoring a canned food drive from Thursday through Dec. 14 to help cut fines on record. For each donated can that has not exceeded its expiration date, the library will deduct 25 cents from patrons' fines. The canned goods will be donated to The Good Samaritan, a nonprofit food pantry in Moulton.
