BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) — Heavy rains overnight across a stretch of central and western Pennsylvania are bringing flooding, school closures and evacuations.
The Centre Daily Times reports some Milesburg and Howard residents were rescued from their homes due to flooding early Friday morning.
National Weather Service meteorologist Charles Ross tells the newspaper some parts of Centre County were hit with four to seven inches of rain.
All schools in Sullivan School District are closed Friday due to flooding and rockslides.
In Montoursville, in Lycoming County, WBRE-TV reports some residents were awakened by emergency workers Friday morning and told to evacuate due to a rising creek. Schools there are also closed for the day.
The weather service issued flash flood warnings for a swath of central and western Pennsylvania as rain continues to fall in some areas.
Showers were expected to continue in places like Pittsburgh throughout the day.
